Fulfile vs BIG Digital Downloads: the honest comparison

BIG is the most-reviewed digital delivery app on Shopify and a genuinely solid choice. Fulfile is the newer alternative built around two things BIG’s model does not center: download limits counted per FILE, and flat pricing with no storage or bandwidth tiers. Every BIG fact below was verified July 10, 2026 from their live listing and documentation. Disclosure: written by Fulfile’s founder.

The 30-second answer

Pick BIG if you want the most battle-tested option, your files are small, and storage-tiered pricing fits how you sell. Pick Fulfile if you sell multi-file bundles (per-file limits end the locked-out-buyer ticket), your files are big (10 GB each, no storage math ever), or you want fraud holds and buyer self-service built in. Both deliver automatically and both include license keys on every plan.

The storage math nobody does up front

BIG’s free plan includes 250MB of total storage (verified July 2026). One 4K video, a serious design pack, or a couple of audio bundles and you are past it, which means the plan you actually run on is decided by your file sizes, not the features you need. The paid tiers then meter both storage and bandwidth (15GB to 1TB). Fulfile flips that: plans are gated by features, storage is never counted, bandwidth is never counted, and every plan (including free) takes files up to 10 GB. Your catalog size never picks your plan for you.

Per-file vs per-order limits

BIG’s documentation describes time-based limits and a downloads per order cap as its anti-sharing controls. Order-level caps share one budget across every file in the purchase: sell a 10-file bundle with a 3-download cap and an honest buyer can lock themselves out of most of what they paid for. Fulfile counts the limit per FILE, so each file has its own budget, and buyers help themselves: expired links renew on the download page, and anyone who loses the email can re-send every purchase from fulfile.app/recover.

Where BIG is genuinely stronger

Credibility requires saying it plainly. BIG has 801 reviews at 5.0 and years of track record; Fulfile is new in 2026 with none yet. BIG’s paid entry is cheaper at $9.99, and its PDF stamping starts at that price while Fulfile’s watermarking lives on the $39 Pro plan. If those are your deciding rows, BIG is the rational pick, and this page will still be here if per-file limits or flat pricing start to matter to you later.

Common questions

Is BIG Digital Downloads a good app?

By the numbers, yes: 801 reviews at 5.0 stars as of July 2026, the most-reviewed dedicated delivery app on Shopify. This comparison is about fit, not quality. The real differences are how download limits are counted and how the pricing scales.

How do BIG's download limits work?

Per their documentation (July 2026), BIG offers time-based limits and a limit on downloads per order. Fulfile counts limits per FILE instead: every file in an order carries its own budget, so a buyer of a multi-file bundle can never lock themselves out of files they paid for.

What is the pricing difference?

BIG's tiers are gated by storage and bandwidth: free is 250MB and 50 orders, then $9.99 (15GB storage, 50GB bandwidth), $19.99 (50GB, 500GB), and $49.99 (1TB, 1TB). Fulfile is gated by features, not gigabytes: $0, $19, or $39 flat with no storage or bandwidth accounting on any plan and files up to 10GB each.

Does Fulfile have license keys like BIG?

Both do, on every plan including free. BIG advertises unlimited license keys on all tiers; Fulfile assigns one key per order from a per-product pool on all plans. This one is a tie.

How hard is it to switch from BIG?

About 15 minutes: install Fulfile free, link your Shopify products, bulk-upload the same files (up to 10 GB each), set per-file limits and expiry, send yourself a test delivery, then uninstall BIG. New paid orders deliver through Fulfile automatically.

Your catalog size should never pick your plan.
